Custom Building a Luxury Home- Part 2

We have covered that when spending millions on a home it is natural to want it to be as close to dreamlike as possible. With that said, homebuyers often prefer to custom build a home to ensure it is exactly to their specification.

In the blog post Custom Building a Luxury Home- Part 1, it was discussed that choosing a location for a custom home and the right builder are very important first steps.  Once the location has been decided, and the right custom home builder is hired, it is time to move on to the next steps.

One of the challenges of custom building a luxury home can be staying within budget. It is natural for homeowners to focus on every detail of their new home; however, it can result in blowing the budget fairly quickly. Homeowners should work with the home builder to create a budget that accounts for every detail, from the premium built-ins to all the electronics required.  It is easy to get carried away thus it is a good idea to spend some time thinking about the details and their costs.

Another important step is planning for functionality. The luxury home should reflect the homeowner and should fit their needs. A homeowner interested in entertaining should build a home with a space that flows, while a home owner interested in creating a family-friendly environment might have other needs. When it comes to building a custom home the functionality is unique to every homeowner.  It is important to design a luxury home based on how the homeowner plans to use it –whether it’s to entertain, or showcase art work.
